Focusing your time to be as productive as you can has never been more important - yet many of us waste our precious time on employees, who frankly don't deserve it. They will never fit. Solving this problem for you will almost certainly be solving a problem for them - so don't be fearful. Want to know more - and how? Read on...

Ever feel that you spend too much time shoring up the performance of some of your people? More time with one or two than with some of the others.

And doesn't that just drain you? So think about those employees and how they are draining you and damaging the energy you have. The energy that could well be directed much more productively.

There are people in your business who just seem to be way off where you want them to be. They are behaving as they are and it's perfectly their right to be the way they are. But not in your business.

If it doesn't fit what you want, then you have two options (apart from just tolerating it, which I'm sure you don't want to do):-

  1. Make very clear what your expectations are in words of one syllable and write them down. Manage it closely and be prepared for 2.
  2. Work out a way to take them from your business (remember - you are doing them a favour, because if they are in an job which is way different than they are, they will be very unhappy underneath).
  3. There's a 3. Recruit a lot more carefully in future.

  • What do you observe in your team today?
  • Who are the 'keepers'
  • Who are the 'losers' (the ones who suck you dry of energy)
  • Who are the 'Oooops, I should never have taken them on in the first place'.
Great learning too!

And just think about what you will do with the time! One of my clients, when asked to note the people who wasted his time in one week found that one person alone accounted for 30% of his time!

Solving that issue, which required a little focused attention, within two weeks had created that space for him. Space that he used to build his business way above target.

1. Culture: What a difference it makes!
Having worked for several prominent retail organizations I have seen the impact of both positive and negative cultures on the workforce, the customers and, of course, the success of the business. Have no doubt whatsoever, the head of the organization dictates, through words and actions, what the culture will be. I want to tell you about the incredible culture created by a CEO, and a gentleman, I'll call Sam. For three years, I had the opportunity to work for the company that this man headed up b…

2. Burger on a Bun Decision Making By George Ebert
When approaching any decision, it’s important for individuals to maintain the healthy state of openness called for by WYSINWYG (what you see is never what you get). Remember that there is always more going on than simply meets the eye. Calling on all the skills, strengths and resources that are accessible, though not immediately apparent will produce vastly better results. Secondly, individuals should strive for balance in both their data gathering and their decision-making. Many factors can i…

3. Be Proactive - Covey Habit #1 -part a
The first Covey Habit is to 'be proactive'.Now when I first heard this I thought this basically meant 'do stuff'. Proactive people to me were people who simply did things rather than sit and watch, they took the initiative. So to me this was going to be an easy one, and being the first I thought it should be.WRONG!Proactivity here is about choice. It's about taking the initiative to stop - think - choose. The biggest hurdle for most of us is realising we have choice. Covey separates what happen…

4. How to Plan for More Time and Have Time for More Planning
It is important to realize that the title of this article could have been written the other way around, and while at the surface it may seem as stating the same thing, this is the illusion that most people are deceived by and hence therefore are doing less with more, instead of more with less. Now let me clarify, this to another level. Most people complain about 'Well if I had more time, then I could really plan my days!' Yet this approach will never allow you to have that time, therefore no plan…
