You, the Entrepreneur, are 'normally' a type-A individual. One who has little patience with the establishment ~ he or she likes to do it 'his/her way' and that's OK if you know the system and have a plan to achieve your goals.

MENTORING TEAM NEEDED --

IF ONLY! Wow! Someone had told me about the pitfalls.... the valleys.... the challenges. All of us have often said the same during the course of building our business…. especially about the PERSONNEL issues.

Anyone can be successful. YOU, too! There is one BIG requirement. You've gotta "get UP" when you fall down! As a small business entrepreneur, I've been there more times than I like to tell. Most entrepreneurs have! Fallen down or "failed" several times before success is achieved in business.

32 YEARS IN BUSINESS

And I’m still LEARNING everyday. PEOPLE are #1 in any business. You can easily sum up success…. hire the ‘right’ personnel and watch your business sour to great achievement. NOTHING is more important than having good people exceeding customer expectations.

Most of my experiences, at least the last 32 years, have been in the "people" business. Helping the UNemployed person find a JOB. Some folks came to us and they had a job, but wanted a better one.

Our company focus was on CAREER development. Increased value and responsibility ~ higher wages for the qualified employee. Over the course of many years, our staff consultants placed thousands of people in new jobs.

OWN YOUR OWN BUSINESS --

You may be THINKING about "buying" or investing in a franchise. It could be that you are planning to purchase a business, already established. On the other hand, maybe you are the ULTIMATE persona of an entrepreneur... you've got an IDEA or HOBBY that's exciting and just driving you into a business start-up.

GO FOR IT!! Don't get side-tracked by the "nay-sayers" telling you to keep your job. Forget it. You'll go broke! Fail. Work 80 hour weeks. Your spouse will leave you. There are hundreds more with negative thoughts or fear.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK

Every business should have a BUSINESS PLAN. Otherwise, you will likely "go down the tubes" like I have more than once. Why? It's all about FOCUSing your dream.

A friend of mine says that one of the very best books is part of the "DUMMIE" series for writing a business plan. Worth buying and giving it your best shot.

You will never learn everything in advance. Experience is a great teacher ~ yet the PAIN of 'learning' is not much fun. At least you can learn some valuable lessons from my experiences. Mostly good! However, a few BAD ones got through and cost us some heartache. Money, too!

If I were in your shoes, I would make my CAR a LEARNING CENTER. Tapes. CDs. Read all about different businesses. Be a SPONGE, absorb knowledge at every turn.

1. Performance Evaluations Can Be Beneficial By Andrew E. Schwartz
THE PERFORMANCE REVIEW MEETING: It’s a fact — most supervisors and employees have negative feelings toward performance appraisals and appraisal interviews. It’s often necessary to shift people’s thinking from the perception that the interview is a time of judgment to the perspective that supervisors can provide support and direction to employees who want to improve their productivity and be involved in the process. Most employees, after all, wish to work effectively. Few can tolerate the notio…

3. Top 10 Things Every Business Should Provide for Every Worker - Including the Boss! By Philip E. Humbert
Doing business and meeting the needs of workers is increasingly complex. Employees and managers often prefer a cafeteria-list of fringe benefits (a "flexible spending account") so they can choose increased health care, child care or more time off as their individual preferences dictate. But underneath these specifics, there are central needs that most of us want from our work. Money can not buy happiness, and by itself it will rarely purchase a loyal, highly motivated staff (even in a one-pers…

4. Be a Change Agent ( Part 1) By Henrique Plöger-Abreu
Aligning business organizations to be successful in the present and keep on doing this in the future means to develop a new style of Leadership. To celebrate success in our days a leader most is able to craft a strategic vision, define objectives, design, implement and monitor the execution of a strategy and be a change leader in those same organizations. The success of these change initiatives depends largely on leadership and each leader’s ability to not only face change but to welcome it and…
