Let's get a grip on this absolute waste of paper, ink, money and time! There are some common sense points we need to look at here. Direct mail, at 2-5%, has a totally unacceptable response rate. Bad will generation must be factored into the cost of marketing this way. How many people vow never to do business with the company that sends endless junk mail streams? The sophistication and alientation of the American consumer will not support this system for much longer. (Did we learn NOTHING from the Do Not Call list?) Moving to e-mail is not the solution! It is much easier for a person to close an email account than it is to move. Solutions? Can't think of any? Wait for my next article on April 13th.

Problem-Solving Success Tip: Use Your Time for Problems that are Truly Important Use your time for problems that are truly important. Hard as it may be to walk away once you're aware of it, just because a problem is there doesn't mean you have to solve it. Ask yourself and your colleagues, 'What will happen if we don't solve this problem?' If the answer is, 'not much,' then turn your attention to something more important. If you don't know what will happen, find out before you undertake a problem-solving project. It should be clear to you and everyone else involved that the … 3. The “Better Product” fallacy By Arvind Kumar Another fallacy ingrained in the minds of most marketing managers is the belief that the better product will win the marketing battle.Behind the thinking of many marketing managers is the thought that “truth will out.”In other words, if you have the “facts” on your side, it’s only necessary to find a good advertising agency who can communicate those facts to the prospect and a good sales force that can close the sale.We call this approach “inside-out thinking”- that somehow the advertising age… 4. You scribble it down and can’t wait to share it with your co-workers during your morning meeting. The appointed hour arrives and you get your idea onto the agenda.
