Focusing your time to be as productive as you can has never been more important - yet many of us waste our precious time on employees, who frankly don't deserve it. They will never fit. Solving this problem for you will almost certainly be solving a problem for them - so don't be fearful. Want to know more - and how? Read on...

Ever feel that you spend too much time shoring up the performance of some of your people? More time with one or two than with some of the others.

And doesn't that just drain you? So think about those employees and how they are draining you and damaging the energy you have. The energy that could well be directed much more productively.

There are people in your business who just seem to be way off where you want them to be. They are behaving as they are and it's perfectly their right to be the way they are. But not in your business.

If it doesn't fit what you want, then you have two options (apart from just tolerating it, which I'm sure you don't want to do):-

  1. Make very clear what your expectations are in words of one syllable and write them down. Manage it closely and be prepared for 2.
  2. Work out a way to take them from your business (remember - you are doing them a favour, because if they are in an job which is way different than they are, they will be very unhappy underneath).
  3. There's a 3. Recruit a lot more carefully in future.

  • What do you observe in your team today?
  • Who are the 'keepers'
  • Who are the 'losers' (the ones who suck you dry of energy)
  • Who are the 'Oooops, I should never have taken them on in the first place'.
Great learning too!

And just think about what you will do with the time! One of my clients, when asked to note the people who wasted his time in one week found that one person alone accounted for 30% of his time!

Solving that issue, which required a little focused attention, within two weeks had created that space for him. Space that he used to build his business way above target.

1. Learning Disability # 6 – Experience; Help or Hinder? By Graeme Nichol
Isn’t it always interesting to hear somebody say “yeah, we tried that, it didn’t work…” When it was tried; what were the conditions surrounding the business? How was it implemented? How were staff trained? Most questions are never answered with any clarity and real understanding. No real analysis of the changes failure or success was ever done. Meaning that an opportunity to learn was lost.We all learn by our experiences, from walking to riding bicycles, trial and error and a few bruises and s…

2. Project Management, A Forgotten Perspective By Jeff Klem
Effective project managers know how to get the job done, and get it done right. Success comes not only from wise selection of the team members and utilization of the best project management software tools; effective managers know how to lead, and how to encourage project team members to do their best. This includes clearly setting and communicating project goals, providing proper training and/or equipment, as well as other necessary items and expertise. Effective project management also requir…

3. Do Customers Like the Feel of Your Organization? By Nick Arrizza, M.D.
In two recent articles "Some Evidence of How We Are Spiritually Connected" and "Healing Dysfunctional Families" I reported on how individuals who live or work within a system or group are inherently connected at a level that goes beyond words. This realm of connection, which is largely spiritual or unconscious, may or may not be familiar to the more business minded person so I will take some time to explain the nature of this connection and then the wide reaching implications this idea has on …

4. The High, High Price of Distrust By Azriel Winnett
A paper manufacturer with over 300 employees once announced that it was planning to move to more spacious and attractive premises thirty miles down the road. When staff members heard the news, they were very apprehensive. Would transport be provided, so that they would be able to commute easily to the new factory? What would workplace facilities be like in the new place - even if the plant itself would be bigger and brighter, maybe working conditions would be inferior? And what about w…
